Hot Tuscan summers are great for lazing by the pool and dining al fresco with family and friends but, for real foodies, October is the time to pack your bags and prepare for a feast of authentic Tuscan flavours. And, if we’re talking flavour with a capital F, then we’re talking truffles, the fabulous, eye-wateringly expensive king of the Tuscan table.

Biennale Arte 2017: From the 13th of May to the 26th of November Venice will host the 57th Biennale International Art Exhibition, one of the world’s most renowned and recognised contemporary visual art exhibitions. The art exhibition this year titled,  VIVA ART VIVA,  seeks to unfold the works of circa 120 artists, whom debate, explore and expose the language of contemporary art.

Donkey Race (October 4th): What originally started as a joke among locals, has now escalated and become a popular, competitive race between the districts of Alba. On the first Sunday of October a race in the form of the Palio di Siena takes place, the catch are the donkeys. Join and support the districts while they fight for the victory and treasured Palio cloth.

Boccacesca (October 6th-October 8th): For simply ten euros, one can enjoy the regions best food and wine while participating at Certaldo’s Bocceccesca festival. Luring in food and wine fanatics you’ll encounter a diversity of visitors, all interested in exploring and learning about the local products through cooking classes, competitions and tastings.

Sagra del Tartufo Bianco (October 7th-November 26th): Every year the town of Alba, renowned for its legendary White Truffles, hold a fair in light of there local delicacy. Take this opportunity to immerse yourself in the realm of this exquisite jewel, as you’ll find yourself conversing with local vendors and connoisseurs of the origins of the White Truffle, however most importantly how to incorporate the ingredient within your cuisine. Alongside learning of the delicacy, why not treat your taste buds to the exquisite menu’s composed by restaurants all over in spite of there local delicacy.

Rome Film Festival: This year, from the 26th of October to the 5th of November, the 12th edition of Rome Film Festival will take place, in Parco della Musica. The festival includes competitions, many events for the cinema fanatics and international movie premiers.

Sagra del Tordo (28th & 29th October): Montalcino has always been a point of interest for migrating birds, in particular the thrush. Local hunters used October to compete with each other in shooting competitions and upon their return to a banquet awaited. Now, on the last weekend of October, the town dress up in medieval costume and hold dancing, singing and archery competitions. The thrush now has become protected so unfortunately it is no longer on the menu but plenty of delicious food and other local products can still be found.

Chestnut Festival: From the 31st of October to the 1st of November,  Riofreddo (in the province of Roma) holds a chestnut festival. From mid-day visitors have the chance to indulge in a local lunch for the cost of fifteen euros. This lunch consists of a variety of dishes from the region including the renowned chestnut.
