The Perfect Location & Villa
Italy and more to the point Tuscany is the perfect location for anybody’s dream wedding. With the landscape of Italy being so varied and inspiring, it can be hard to decide where to actually host your special day. Our Italian wedding guide has a few tips to help you choose the perfect location and venue for when you say “I do.”
Weddings in Tuscany
Each region of Italy is known for its unique bounty of beautiful scenery, unique communities and charming locales, so finding the perfect area for your wedding is the first step to planning your dream day.
Pisa and Lucca
If beautiful old-world architecture, landmarks and exquisite seafood are your idea of Italy at its finest, then consider having your wedding in Pisa or Lucca. Handily for your guests, Pisa airport (PSA – Galileo Galilei) is Tuscany’s international airport, making it hugely accessible for family and friends travelling from abroad.
Pisa is just a short journey (20 minutes by car) from the superb coastline and miles of unspoilt beaches, though your guests will find more than enough to do in and around the city – what trip to Pisa is complete without a visit to the famous leaning tower?
Travel just slightly further north to discover traditional Luccan cuisine and famous hospitality. Also famed for its 11th and 12th century buildings, it makes for the perfect wedding location for the couple wanting to experience true Italian culture.
A wedding in Florence guarantees that your wedding will be a day to remember and that guests will always have something to do! Florence is the spiritual home of the Italian renaissance, something evident in all the architecture and artwork that can be found around the city.
Florence also boasts the beautiful river Arno, which offers river tours of some of Italy’s most recognisable landmarks and buildings. What better way for the newlyweds to celebrate their union than with a romantic gondola ride?
Access from a choice of three different airports makes it even easier for guests to travel in from abroad for your special day, with convenient access to Pisa airport as well as Rome’s two airports.
Venice & Verona
It’s no wonder that Venice & Verona are a popular hotspot for people in love; with its idyllic landscapes and scenery as well as being the home of Romeo & Juliet, Verona is the spiritual home of romance. Venice is a city that needs no introduction; steeped in history and immortalised in culture, Venice is a truly one-of-a-kind location, where cars are nowhere to be seen and boats line the roads.
For a true escape to the country you won’t find better than Chianti. Known the world over for its wine making, Chianti is Italy’s most rural and unspoilt areas. Even though it’s one of Tuscany’s most popular regions to visit, it still maintains its unique allure and personality, coupled with the finest locally sourced food and drink.
For the couple wanting to get away from it all and have a more laid back wedding, Chianti could be the perfect choice of location. That said, if you’re after a grand and lively event Chianti can certainly deliver that too.
Choosing a wedding villa
How many guests?
There’s a villa the perfect size for every wedding party, whether you’d like a quiet and intimate event or if you’re sharing the occasion with as many of your nearest and dearest as possible.
Our larger villas are not only perfect for hosting weddings but can also sleep 20 or more people at a time, making it easier to organise the post-celebration arrangements. Most also feature air-conditioned rooms and in many instances pools, so your guests can stay entertained whatever the weather.
If you picture your wedding to be a smaller event for only the closest friends and family, there are plenty of villas available to choose from, many including terraces with breath-taking views to share the experience with those closest to you.
Tours and experiences for your guests
Larger groups can benefit from guided tours of the local area, particularly in Florence for the art-lovers, Chianti for the wine aficionados and San Gimignano by bike for those wanting to experience the Italian countryside.
Alternatively, a tour of Florence’s markets followed by a traditional, Italian cooking course from one of our professional chefs will leave any wedding guest with stories and skills to last a lifetime.
For smaller groups to entertain, your guests can enjoy a day of truffle hunting, or explore the hills of Chianti in a classic Fiat 500.
In Italy it’s commonplace to invite the entire extended family to a wedding and the Italian weather makes outdoor weddings the perfect solution for everyone. For the perfect blend of stunning outdoor views and the perfect indoor facilities, it might be a good idea to think about finding a villa with a stunning view which offers plenty of outdoor space such as gardens, terraces and al fresco dining.
Traditional & contemporary Villas
Many of Tuscany’s most beautiful villas are 16th century or earlier, but you can be forgiven for wanting some modern luxury in addition to your big day. Villa Atena, for instance is a charming summer home in Mugello, a well-known retreat for wealthy Florentines. With pools, air conditioning and frescoed walls, all within this beautiful house with stunning views.
For a grand retreat after the ceremony the exquisite 15th century Villa Lungomonte offers a capacious and lavishly decorated interior for your guests if the sensational views prove too much for them, featuring superb and classically beautiful designs and just a stone’s throw away from acres of forests and olive groves as well as local restaurants.
The Estate of Petroio offers the latest in modern amenities; including a wing of the house suitable for people with restricted mobility. Offering air-conditioned bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the 900 acre estate prides itself on having everything you could want in a modern setting.
